Flawless 102-ct Diamond Could Fetch $30m

September 13, 20 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Sotheby's is to auction an extremely rare 102.39-carat D color, Type IIa, flawless oval diamond.

It will be sold in a live online auction, with, unusually, no reserve price. There is speculation that the gem (pictured), described as "the size of a lollipop" could break the record for an online diamond auction, and fetch up to $30m, though Sotheby's would not be drawn on price.

It was cut by Diacore from a 271-carat rough diamond at the Victor Mine owned by De Beers in Ontario, Canada, in 2018.

It is the second-largest oval diamond of its kind ever to be sold at auction. Only seven other flawless white diamonds above 100 carats have ever been sold at auction.

The stone will be sold in a single-lot live auction in Hong Kong on 5 October 5.Flawless 102-ct Diamond Could Fetch $30m
