Three Arrested for Allegedly Stealing 5-Ct Diamond at Bangkok Gem Fair

February 25, 15 by Danielle Max

(IDEX Online News) – Three Chinese men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing a 5-carat diamond, worth about 1.2 million bhat ($36,864) from the 55th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair on Tuesday morning.

An Indian trader at the fair reported the theft to police saying that the three suspects had asked to view the stone on the first day of the fair and replaced it with a fake stone.

According to reports in the Bangkok Post, the three men entered Thailand from Hong Kong two days before allegedly stealing the diamond. They were arrested when they tried to cross the border into Cambodia.
