Alrosa, Diamond Chamber of Russia Auction Raises $14.4 Mln

October 06, 04 by Albert Robinson

Russia’s diamond mining monopoly Alrosa and the Diamond Chamber of Russia sold $14.4 million of rough diamonds, including 16 particularly large diamonds weighing over 50 carats each, at the fourth international auction.

The auction consisted of 72 lots with a total weight of around 9,950 carats. Among the stones were a number weighing more than 96 carats each.

The auction was held from August 23 to September 23 and is the fourth such auction offering goods weighing upwards of 10.8 carats. The first auction was held by Alrosa and the Diamond Chamber in September 2003.

In total, 33 Russian and foreign invited companies took part in the auction, including companies from the United States, India, Israel, Belgium, the British Virgin Islands and Belarus.
