133-ct Yellow Diamond Could Fetch $5m

November 29, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A huge 133.03 carat fancy vivid yellow diamond is to be sold loose by Sotheby's New York, with an estimate of $4m to $5m.

The VS2 cushion modified brilliant-cut gem will lead the Hollywood-themed live Magnificent Jewels auction on 5 December.

The gem is described as coming from "an important private collection", but the name of the owner is not disclosed.

The sale features items from the collections of Mary Tyler Moore, Frank and Barbara Sinatra, Red Skelton and Tony Randall, with many pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Harry Winston and David Webb.

Earlier this month Sotheby's Geneva sold a similar-sized yellow diamond - a 103.62-carat fancy intense gem - also VS2 and cushion modified brilliant-cut, sold for $2.48m.
