Daytripper Noreen Digs up a 4.38-ct Yellow Diamond

(IDEX Online) - A daytripper paid a $10 entry fee to dig for diamonds - and went home with a 4.38-ct yellow gem.
Noreen Wredberg was enjoying a day out with husband Michael at the Crater of Diamonds State Park, near Murfreesboro, in Arkansas, USA.
"I didn't know it was a diamond then, but it was clean and shiny, so I picked it up," she said.
Park superintendent Caleb Howell said: "It's about the size of a jellybean, with a pear shape and a lemonade color."
He said recent rains had probably uncovered the diamond, and it was a sunny morning, which would have made it easier to spot. Noreen, from Granite Bay, California, found the diamond after just an hour at the park.
In 2020 visitors to the USA's only active diamond mine recovered over 80 carats. They get to keep any stones they find.
