Lucapa Recovers 176-ct Diamond at Lulo
July 30, 24(IDEX Online) - Lucapa has recovered its fifth +100 carat diamond this year from the Lulo alluvial mine in Angola.
The 176 carat Type IIa diamond is the 45th +100 carat stone, and the eighth largest, since the Australian miner began alluvial operations in January 2015.
At the end of May Lucapa announced the recovery of a 195-carat Type IIa diamond. The largest ever recovery at Lulo was a 404 carat Type IIa diamond, in February 2016.
Earlier this month Lucapa said had resumed its search for the kimberlite sources of diamonds currently being recovered at Lulo and had selected 23 kimberlites for bulk sampling in the current phase of exploration.
Nick Selby, the company's managing director and CEO said: "The recovery of this 176-carat diamond is yet more
confirmation of the massive potential of the kimberlite province where we are focussing our exploration efforts to find the source(s) of these magnificent gems.
"As can be seen from the image, the diamond has not travelled far as it still displays sharp, angular edges."
